Kate Strein an 8th grade ELA and Pre-AICE Global Perspectives teacher at Jupiter Middle School in Jupiter, Florida and Cynthia Lee a high school English teacher at Changhua Arts High School in Changhua City, Taiwan had a very successful connection this year. They were able to complete three exchanges throughout the year.
First Exchange: Getting to Know One Other/Making a New Friend
For their first exchange, Kate and Cynthia had their students record themselves using Canva. Students used a sentence stem template to help build responses. You can access the sentence stem template here. You can watch students Danelia and Kelly share about themselves below.
Second Exchange: Introducing Different Classes or Landmarks in our Town
For the second exchange, Kate and Cynthia gave their student a few choices. Students could either tell their friends about a class that they had at school or they could write about landmarks or fun places to go to in their town. Kate had her students make slide decks about thier school and city. Cynthia had her students make Canva posters.

Kate’s students worked together in teamx. Each team focused on a different part of the sea turtles’ life cycle. Each report highlights different problems that sea turtles are facing and local conservation efforts that help solve the problems. You can see some of their work below.
Final Exchange: Tasting Taiwanese Snacks!
For their final exchange, Cynthia sent some Taiwanese snacks for the Jupiter Middle School students to sample. Kate’s students tried the snacks and wrote thier impressions down next to the snack. Some photos of the snacks and student responses can be found below.
